The key quotes from the manager:
Team News:
“We’ve lost Rafael for three to four weeks. The likes of Young, Nani and Chicharito are still recovering – hopefully they’re not too far away. It’s just a case of getting them back up to speed because they have missed a lot of pre-season. We’ve got a really good squad here, which means we can cope with injuries.”
On New signings:
“There is no pressure to do it. I have an idea of where I’d like to strengthen. If the right players are available, then great, but there is a possibility nothing may happen.”
On Rooney’s possible transfer to Chelsea:
“We have told you haven’t we. I hardly need to repeat it again. It doesn’t need to be said.”
On Chelsea:
“I came for this sort of level of game but I also came to win trophies. To do that you have to beat the likes of Chelsea. It’s a great first home game for us to have. They have started strongly, they have good players and are a good team. There’s not a big change to the team, they just have a new manager, a bit like us.”
On Jose Mourinho’s return:
“I really like Jose. He’s had great success. I’ve not seen him for a long time so I’m looking forward to seeing him.”
On the win at Swansea:
“We had a great performance and result. It was a difficult game and I think Swansea will cause teams a lot of problems. It was nice to win.”
Overall, it was a very interesting press
conference from United’s new man in charge, and it was great to see
that he is relishing the big game United have on Monday night. It was
clear to see that Moyes was delighted with last week’s performance, and
he views it as a great platform to build on against the arguably tougher
opposition United will face Monday night. When speaking about the
opposition manager, Moyes showed that he has huge respect for the Jose
Mourinho, and he was obviously looking forward to having another chance
to test his wits against him. The way Moyes dealt with the questions
regarding Wayne Rooney was also very intriguing, and it is obvious that
the manager is fed up with the questions regarding the striker, and he
is still keeping his firm stance that the striker is not for sale. Time
will tell if this actually is the case, but it does seem that Moyes
seems very reluctant to sell to Chelsea.
Moyes also answered questions about new
signings, and it was slightly concerning to hear that United may now not
bring in anyone at all. As Moyes stated, it seems United are now very
willing to let the window close if the right player is not available,
and there is no need to panic buy with a squad still intact from
cruising to the league title last season. Hopefully United can gain an
important win on Monday night, one that may mean more than just 3 points
to David Moyes. This would prove to his critics that he is capable of
winning the big games, and if he can add some new names to the squad
next week as well, there will be many very happy United fans.
